Aarhus, study tour visit Kassel (9/2006)

Being involved in the Aarhus tramway/TramTrain planning since 2004 (see the Aarhus project page) Axel Kuehn was assigned in 2006 again to organise a high-level political visit to the Kassel RegioTram project.

The group consisted of the lord mayor of Aarhus, other mayors of involved cities in the region as well as politicians from the regional council and from state government in Copenhagen, but also some key civil servants from Aarhus.

Looking at the participants, the focus of the visit was certainly much less on the technical details of RegioTram operation but on the political handling, the regional cooperation and the funding of the project.

A major wish of the group, which could be fulfilled due to a very good cooperation with NVV, the NorthHessian passenger transport authority, was the opportunity to exchange and discuss views with local Kassel politicians.

This study tour is a good example for a strongly focussed tour to one location within a very short one day time slot and all the implications of more political tours. Aarhus´ feedback was very positive.
