NAHVERKEHR (6/2006 most recent publication)

The magazine "Der Nahverkehr" is one of the leading professional German magazines on public transport issues. Axel Kuehn has published articles on a variety of subjects over a period from 1995 in this magazine.

The starting point was even together with Dieter Ludwig and it is an article which is still today often found as a literature source in newer publications. However, in the mid 90's the view on TramTrain and its potential success was much more euphoric then it is today! So it's more something from the good old days … (special prints of this historic article are still available from the author, please drop a mail here...

A publication in 11/1998 with Uwe Konrath dealt with "Bahnsteighöhen - Probleme bei Mischbetrieb", still today a major technical problem for TramTrain if accessibility is taken serious.

Another publication in 1-2/2004 together with Andrew Braddock, London (see www.lightrail.nl/YellowPages) again touched accessibility issues, comparing requirements in different countries, but with some focus to a project performed for London buses (see: selected projects) and the question which platform heights for buses are achievable and whether a joint use of platforms by buses and trams is feasible with perfect level access for both? It is possible! Please contact the author for copies of special print.

A presentation of the Hitrans project (see: selected projects) followed in June 2005 together with the project manager Hans Magnar Lien from Stavanger. Also from this article both special prints and a pdf-download are available. Please contact the author for copies of special print.

Based on research performed together with Wielant Ratz, a German colleague who shared office with Axel Kuehn in Karlsruhe for some years, this latest publication deals not with rail issues (!!!) but with the opportunities offered by the internet in view of marketing local bus schemes in smaller cities (called "Stadtbus" in Germany). By comparing 19 web sites of Stadtbus-schemes in detail (and some more in brief) it was possible to identify best practise regarding the online presentation of Stadtbus-schemes.
